What Is Dermatology?
Dermatology is the branch of medicine focused on the skin and related issues. Suspected cases of skin cancer are among the most common reasons for a trip to the dermatologist, but these skin care providers also treat rashes, allergies, infections, and much more.
If skin issues are bothering you, perhaps this scenario sounds familiar? Many people choose to ignore a problem until it gets significantly worse. Only when skin problems begin to spread or become severe and are accompanied by fever, swelling, or other symptoms will a visit to the dermatologist be considered. There is no need to stay away, however. You may be surprised at how good your skin can look and feel after a visit with a dermatology provider at RCH’s specialty outpatient clinic.
Skin Conditions Treated
Below are just a few of the many dermatology conditions treated in our outpatient dermatology clinic:
- Hives
- Irregular pigmentation
- Moles
- Poison ivy
- Psoriasis
- Rashes
- Rosacea
- Shingles
- Skin cancer
- Skin tags
- Spider and varicose veins
- Warts
No matter your condition or symptoms, it is important to have a provider in the field assess you for possible treatment. The RCH outpatient dermatology clinic offers comprehensive care for all types of dermatology conditions, including everything from dry skin and rashes to nonhealing wounds and skin cancer.
Dermatology Services Offered
Dermatology providers can biopsy and remove suspicious skin growths, as well as prescribe treatments that may include oral or topical medications, UV light therapy, and more. For those who wish to improve their appearance, we can help with that, too. Ask about our anti-aging and cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, dermal fillers, facials, and laser treatments.
What to Expect
Once you make an appointment at RCH’s outpatient dermatology clinic, you can expect a thorough evaluation of your skin, including a close-up assessment of any moles, bumps, or other irregularities. Any symptoms you are experiencing will be discussed – as well as your family and personal health history and your available treatment options.
Living with rashes, itchy skin, acne breakouts, and more can affect not just your physical health but also your emotional well-being. By getting the all-clear from a skin care professional, you may be surprised at just what a relief that can be.
