What Are Orthopedic Injuries?
Orthopedics is the branch of medicine dealing with injuries to the musculoskeletal system, which includes the hard and soft tissue that allow you to move – including your bones, joints, muscles, nerves, tendons, and more. Orthopedic injuries are those that cause damage to these hard and soft tissue. Treatment for orthopedic injuries include surgical and nonsurgical methods.

Orthopedic doctors, like those available at Ringgold County Hospital’s outpatient orthopedics clinic, can help relieve pain, swelling, and limited mobility due to a wide range of orthopedic injuries. This includes conditions such as:
- Fractures
- Golfer’s elbow
- Joint pain
- Meniscus tears
- Pulled muscles
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Shoulder instability and dislocation
- Soft tissue tears
- Sprains and strains

Very often, medical imaging is required in order to confirm, rule out, or identify the extent of an orthopedic injury. Diagnostic testing may include X-rays, MRIs, CT scan and other tests.
