Prenatal Care

Ringgold County Hospital is proud to partner with UnityPoint Health – Des Moines with our “Shared Care” model! Through this initiative, we can provide prenatal care close to home.

Prenatal care is available in Ringgold County with Dr. Katie Willcox and Erin Leonard, ARNP. We provide the same prenatal care services as larger facilities– including ultrasounds, lab work, and education. You can schedule an appointment to be seen as early as your first positive pregnancy test.

TENTATIVE PLAN OF CARE:

1. Mt. Ayr Medical Clinic: Initial appointment, dating ultrasound, and continued care through 16 weeks gestation.
2. UnityPoint OB/GYN: First appointment with a provider at UnityPoint OB/GYN for your 20-week visit and anatomy ultrasound.
3. Mt. Ayr Medical Clinic: Continued care with MAMC until 34 weeks gestation.
4. UnityPoint OB/GYN: Finish care with UnityPoint OB/GYN provider until delivery.
5. Mt. Ayr Medical Clinic: Return to MAMC for newborn/postpartum care.

After birth, you can return to Mt. Ayr Medical Clinic for all your postnatal care, including:

• Weight checks for your baby
• Lactation Counseling
• Education about what to expect in the postpartum period, including recovery, baby blues, and postpartum depression
• Birth control options
• And more!

With the convenience of close-to-home prenatal care, you can skip the drive time and time off work. The Shared Care model allows for close-to-home appointments, ensures a smooth transition for delivery, and provides personalized newborn/postpartum care for you and your baby.
