Telehealth visits allow clinicians and patients to discuss healthcare needs without the risk of exposing patients and providers alike to communicable diseases. This type of remote patient assessment and medical care has been especially valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic, when social distancing has been recommended to help stop the spread of the highly contagious virus.

Additional benefits of telehealth include not having to worry about transportation, parking, time away from work, or having to arrange for childcare or other needs. When access to medical care is made easy – as is the case with telehealth – everyone wins.

How Telehealth Works

Telehealth is simply a real-time video visit with your healthcare provider, using any internet-connected device, such as a smartphone, laptop, or computer. The device you use must have a working camera, microphone, and screen. The visit will be similar to other platforms you may already be familiar with, such as FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, Zoom, or Skype.

Here’s what to expect:

  • You must schedule your telehealth appointment ahead of time. Established patients* of Mount Ayr Medical Clinic need only call the clinic at (641) 464-4470 to schedule a telehealth visit.
  • Prior to your scheduled telehealth appointment, you will receive a simple text on your cellphone from your Mount Ayr Medical Clinic healthcare provider.
  • Clicking on the link contained within that text will initiate a secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual visit, complete with secure file sharing capabilities and the opportunity to complete forms online.

There is no app to download – and no patient registration process to complete.

We recommend you find a quiet and private place for the virtual visit. You may also want to ensure you have a good internet connection and that the microphone and camera on your phone, laptop, or computer are working properly.
